Below is an outline of how RAD exams are marked and how this is displayed on your exam certificate.

A physical copy of certificates will be handed out to dancers in class.

 

HOW TO READ YOUR EXAM CERTIFICATE

  • Class Awards & Pre-Primary Ballet Exams will receive a mark out of 3 for ‘Technique’, ‘Music’, ‘Performance’ & their ‘Dance’ components.

    The following descriptors will indicate their marks of either 0, 1, 2 or 3 in each component:

    0 = (Not Shown) The elements to be assessed were not shown

    1 = (Occasionally) The candidate showed an ability to achieve the required assessment criteria some of
    the time

    2 = (Generally) The candidate showed an ability to achieve the required assessment criteria
    approximately half of the time

    3 = (Frequently) The candidate showed an ability to achieve the required assessment criteria almost all of the time

  • On Your Certificate:

    Technique 1 = ‘Legs & Feet’ / ‘Arms & Head’ exercises

    Technique 2 = ‘Bend & Run’ / ‘Bend & Pointe’ exercises

    Technique 3 = ‘Transfer of Weight’ / ‘Marches’ exercises

    Technique 4 = ‘Jumps, Springs & Hops’ / ‘Jumps & Springs’ exercises

    Technique 5 = ‘Galops & Skips’ / ‘Run & Leap’ exercises

    Music = Music marks for the above exercises

    Performance = Performance mark for the above exercises

    Dance - Technique = Technique mark for your Dance

    Dance - Music & Performance = Music & Performance mark for your Dance

    Recall = Secure recall of all content

  • On Your Certificate:

    Technique 1 = ‘Warm-up’ / ‘Legs & Arms’ exercises

    Technique 2 = ‘Port de bras’ / ‘Demi Plies’ / ‘Transfer of Weight’ / ‘Walks’ exercises

    Technique 3 = Allegro exercises (jumps)

    Technique 4 = Grand Allegro exercises (big jumps)

    Music = Music mark for the above exercises

    Performance = Performance mark for the above exercises

    Dance - Technique = Technique mark for your 1st Dance

    Dance - Music & Performance = Music & Performance combined mark for your 1st Dance

    Character - Technique = Technique mark for your Character Dance

    Character - Music & Performance = Music & Performance combined mark for your Character Dance

Dancers receive marks for three over-arching criteria which each include a number of sub-components:

  • Responsiveness to Music
