Classical Ballet

Classical Ballet is a highly structured dance form, characterised by precise positions of the arms, feet, and body, designed to enable dancers to move with agility, control, speed, lightness, and grace.

Central to classical ballet technique is the turned-out position of the legs, which enhances the range of movement through increased hip mobility and creates an elegant, extended line.

Our lower-level classes provide an enchanting introduction to ballet steps and foundational technique, making the journey into classical ballet accessible and joyful for new dancers. Ballet often conjures images of magical, fairy-tale stage productions, and our students experience this wonder through the beautiful music of the RAD syllabus as well as the captivating choreography in our concert performances.

At our studio, we follow the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus—a prestigious UK-based dance education and examination board founded in 1920. The RAD is recognized worldwide for its rigorous standards and influential role in classical ballet training.

To complement this, we also offer weekly open ballet and pointe classes, ensuring dancers receive comprehensive, high-quality training that supports both technical mastery and artistic development.

LYRICAL

Lyrical Dance is rooted in the classical ballet aesthetic, featuring choreography that incorporates ballet steps with similar poise, grace, fluidity, and dynamic range. However, lyrical dance allows for greater freedom of movement—steps may include floor work, and arm and leg positions can be turned inward or asymmetrical, offering dancers more space to express themselves.

What truly sets lyrical dance apart is its deep connection to the music. The choreography is designed to reflect the emotions, rhythm, and lyrics of the songs, allowing dancers to interpret and tell a story through movement. This expressive quality makes lyrical a favourite among many students, as it combines technical skill with heartfelt artistry.

ACRObatics

Acrobatics or Acro is a fun and inclusive class that combines dance with acrobatics. Students begin with strength and conditioning exercises before progressing through skills on the mat, such as rolls, handstands, cartwheels, side aerials, and floor work progressions.

Unlike traditional gymnastics, acrobatics in our program emphasises a dance aesthetic, with skills seamlessly integrated into Lyrical and Contemporary choreography.

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary Dance is a dynamic and imaginative style that invites dancers to explore new ways of moving and expressing themselves. Drawing from modern, jazz, and classical ballet, it encourages creativity, emotional connection, and storytelling through movement.

For younger students, contemporary often focuses on movement exploration and floor work, helping them develop strength, flexibility, and body awareness in a playful and imaginative way. Choreography frequently centers around concepts or themes - such as ‘birds’ or other abstract ideas - allowing dancers to interpret and express stories or emotions through their movements.

Technically, contemporary combines the controlled lines of ballet and jazz with modern techniques like contract-release, fall and recovery, and improvisation. This fusion creates a rich vocabulary that dancers use to communicate meaning and emotion.

Performance team

Our Performance Team offers dedicated dancers the chance to develop their skills and perform at eisteddfods and competitions throughout the year.

While being part of the team requires a strong commitment to regular training and full attendance at competition events, the rewards are plentiful. Dancers experience the thrill of performing in front of audiences, build lasting friendships, and grow in confidence both on and off the stage.

Training across Classical Ballet, Contemporary/Lyrical, and Jazz Technique (IDT) helps dancers become versatile and expressive artists. The journey fosters discipline, resilience, and teamwork—qualities that benefit dancers far beyond the studio.

Most importantly, being in the Performance Team nurtures a deep love for dance, creating memorable experiences and personal achievements that dancers cherish for a lifetime.
